Ontario Gilwell Reunion

If you’ve never heard of, or been to, an Ontario Gilwell Reunion. Check out the link on the right side of this page. You wont believe what you’ve been missing.

The name “Young Gilwellian Representative” has got to change?

Fellow Gilwellians (no matter your age)
Since the creation of the YGR at the 2008 Reunion the Committee has requested multiple changes to the position that I hold. As your representative!
The Committee would like the YGR to now represent all “New Gilwellians” AND “Young Gilwellians” (under 30.)

If this happens the position will need a new name. As we all know Many if not most New Gilwellians are over the age of 30.

I’d like to discuss this topic with YOU.

Visit our Facebook Group to participate in this discussion.

“Young Gilwellians of the Ontario Gilwell Reunion” is the name.

New look

I hope everyone likes the new look of this blog. I think a change was due. If you’re not moving forward you’re moving back right? Hey, if you really don’t like it just say so.

Only 49 more sleeps ’til Reunion!!

Having recently returned from Scotia Jamb, where I was an OOS member, I’ve  only now been able to sit down and clearout my 4 Scouting email addresses, no guff. “You might be a Leader if” (See my previous post) LMAO

The Reunion Committee is hard at work preparing for this year’s upcoming Gilwell Reunion (The best ever. Is what I’ve heard). We’ve got some strong numbers for pre-registrations that have come in so far. Which is cooler than the other side of the pillow. Bet we could do even better if we ALL get out and promote.

One other item is the ever growing list of Young and or New Gilwellians to our Mailing List. Please dyb dyb dyb to get the word out about this Blog and the Fun that everyone has in store for them when we see each other in September.

Off to bed. Tomorrow it’ll only be 48 more sleeps……

“You just might be a Leader”

Pfft! Everybody thought they’d say no. LOL

Well, another successful Reunion Committee Meeting for ALL Gilwellians.

Let me start by saying,  this year’s Committee is determined to make the upcoming Reunion one of the best yet. Let’s make #58 Rock.

I’ll also let you in on a little secret this years theme is

“The Game of Scouting – Growing up is Optional”

To YG’s. A few matters for us specifically.

  • Meet and Greet committee will be working to create a tour for Young and New Gilwellians
  • Hazing:  The committee will once again ask contingents to discontinue the use of “hazing” of new Gilwellians and instead, encourage them to celebrate their presence at Reunion.
  • The Reunion Committee has plans to increase awareness of the Reunion. More details to follow as I get them.
  • There was a motion by David Coutts, seconded by Brian Powell that the Young Gilwellian position be extended to 3 years, with the person coming in to shadow the position, would do so in the last year of that term.  The motion was carried.  A binder for this position will also have to be created.

Ok here it is, the part we’ve been waiting for.

The YGR suggested a new late night activity for Saturday night.  A “Pizza Parlour” will occupy the Keke once the store has been packed away on Saturday night.  This will be an activity that begins late at night for those that stay up into the a.m. hours of Sunday morning. There was a motion by Jack Welsh, seconded by Bruce Wannamaker that YG’s committee be fronted startup funds for the pizza parlour.  The motion was carried.

 Woo Hoo!!!

Reunion Committee Meeting – A Success

Of course there were many things discussed this past weekend. Something must come from a 6 hour meeting.  ; )

The highlights:

We’ve got the Committee’s support for a late night Pizza Parlour on the Saturday of Reunion.

A list of suggestions, that were put together by the YG Task Force, was presented to the Committee with overwhelming success.

The 2009 Gilwell Reunion’s theme will be “Growing Up is Optional.”

Next Reunion Committee meeting is set for February 7, 2009
